Anthony Vaglica is a New York State Certified Health and Physical Education Teacher. He currently teaches physical education at The Bronxville School and has worked there since 2006. Anthony’s classroom focuses on guiding students in the process of becoming physically active for a lifetime. He wants students to integrate and apply the skills learned in physical education to their everyday life. Anthony also serves as the Teacher Liaison to the Athletic Council, Head Varsity Baseball Coach, Bronxville After School Instructor, Math Olympiad Coordinator, and Bronxville Teachers Association Executive Council Member. He has coached a plethora of sports and has coached all levels from Kindergarten to the NCAA Division II level.
Anthony has been involved in many Bronxville Public School initiatives, including the implementation of the “Achilles Kids Program” as a permanent part of the adaptive physical education curriculum, created, designed and implemented the trimester physical education curriculum in the elementary school, researched and wrote successful grants for the heart rate monitor technology, a rock climbing wall, educational televisions for the gymnasiums, unruly splats (technology for physical education), batting cages, radar gun technology, and a playground redesign. He has also been involved in many athletic initiatives, including the new athletics website, social media accounts, homecoming redesign, and spring spirit week.
Anthony has been the Director of Summer Camps for The Chapel School since 2016 and has been part of the summer program since 2014. Before coming to The Chapel School Summer Camp, he was the Early Childhood Director & Childhood Assistant Director of the Sports Camp at Concordia College-NY. Anthony has been working summer camps since 1998 and has 23 years of experience in the camp world.
Since taking over the program in 2016, the camp has doubled enrollment, seen its highest registrations ever in 2017, then in 2018, & surpassing again in 2019. Anthony successfully and safely ran the program during the pandemic (in 2020) for seven weeks and was able to get the camp to 50% capacity. Also, the program has added afternoon and full-day sessions for Care Bear Campers, has branded new themes, created a new website, and has nearly doubled the number of camps that are offered each summer.
Anthony provides leadership and oversight of the summer program for children ages 3-12. He provides an enriching summer experience of excellence in a safe, nurturing environment that maintains alignment with the school’s mission. Anthony has oversight and direct supervision of the 70 camp staff and outside vendors.
Anthony currently serves as the Alumni Administrator for the STEER for Student Athletes Organization. He has helped to create an alumni community where former student-athletes can connect and where alumni can connect with the program's current students and staff. Overall, his role helps connect alumni and get alumni to “pay it forward” to current student-athletes.
Anthony graduated from Concordia College-NY with an undergraduate degree and received his Master of Arts in Teaching, Physical Education, and Sport Pedagogy from Manhattanville College. He then earned an advanced degree in Teaching, Health Education from Manhattanville College. Anthony is currently enrolled in the Department of Educational Leadership and Special Subjects at Manhattanville College. He is earning his Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership, becoming a School Building and School District Certified New York State Administrator.
Anthony lives in Yorktown with his wife and two children, Anthony and Domenic. His wife Maria is a Special Education Teacher in the Yorktown School District.
