Katherine Torres has been teaching in New York City for 18 years. Raised and educated in the South Bronx, Katherine enjoys giving back to her community as a teacher and mentor. As a history teacher, Katherine inspires her students to understand their history, stand on the shoulders of those that came before them, and reach for their full potential and contribution.
Bilingual and bicultural, born in New York City to parents who emigrated from Puerto Rico, Katherine earned her bachelor’s degree from John Jay College, New York, her Master of Arts in Secondary Education Social Studies at Herbert Lehman College in the Bronx, and her administrative certification from Baruch College, New York. Katherine is chairperson of the history department at Careers in Sports High School in the South Bronx, where she specializes in Latin American and Caribbean history and culture, often organizing special educational and career events for the students.
Katherine takes intense pride in her work as a teacher and mentor, and among her greatest joys is keeping in touch with her many former students who have gone on to success and fulfillment.
