STEER Visits Bates, Colby & Bowdoin

Our Director of College & Alumni Engagement, Astrid Vargas, recently traveled to Maine to visit Bates, Colby, and Bowdoin Colleges, three incredible institutions committed to academic excellence and student success. These visits were an exciting opportunity to explore new pathways for our STEER students-athletes, deepen partnerships, and connect with dedicated professionals who share our mission of expanding access to higher education. From insightful campus tours to thoughtful discussions around student support, each visit offered new ideas and inspiration to strengthen our college partnerships. We’re excited to turn these learnings into opportunities that empower our STEER student-athletes to thrive both on the field, in the classroom, and in the future.

The STEER U.S. Open Networking Event brought together students, donors, and volunteers in a powerful evening of connection and purpose. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers, STEER students had the opportunity to network, learn, and showcase their passion for growth. Attendees called the event a true success, highlighting how collaboration across the community creates meaningful opportunities that prepare students for future success. Student-Athletes Explore Sports Media at Bruce Beck Broadcasting Camp

This summer, STEER student-athletes Pierre Tervil and Jayden Camacho took a major step beyond the playing field by attending the Bruce Beck Sports Broadcasting Camp, an elite program designed to introduce high school students to the fast paced world of sports media. Hosted by NBC sportscaster Bruce Beck, the camp gave Pierre and Jayden the opportunity to sharpen their communication skills, work alongside professional broadcasters, and get a firsthand look at careers in sports journalism, play by play announcing, and on camera reporting. Their participation reflects a strong drive to grow not just as athletes, but as confident leaders with an eye toward future possibilities both in front of the mic and beyond the game. A special thanks to Bruce Beck for all that he does to support our student-athletes!

SLEEPY HOLLOW STEER STUDENTS DELIVER BIG FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

A group of Sleepy Hollow High School STEER student-athletes recently volunteered their time with the Horseman’s Harvest Food Pantry to deliver food and water to 36 senior residents at the Sleepy Hollow Assisted Living Facility. The students spent the day not only handing out essential supplies but also offering kindness and conversation to the residents. The effort highlighted the students’ commitment to giving back to their community and demonstrated the positive impact of youth leadership and service beyond the athletic field.

Student-athletes gain college experience at harvard this summer

This summer, STEER student-athletes Gabby Castaneda, Agelys Encarnacion, Khloe Escoto and Vinoria Frempong attended the Harvard Summer Academies, gaining valuable early exposure to college life. Spending time on the Harvard University campus, they experienced firsthand what it’s like to live, learn, and grow in a world class academic setting. From navigating campus life to connecting with students from across the globe, this opportunity allowed them to build confidence, broaden their perspective, and take meaningful steps toward their college goals both academically and personally.

Eastern fc, csee, & Steer come together for free fun soccer!

AYSO Yonkers Region 1679, CSEE, STEER and Eastern FC Collaborated to bring Free Fun Soccer to 1st-5th Graders at CSEE in Yonkers this Spring. STEER Upperclassman at CSEE served as assistant coaches and administrators with Coaches & Directors from Eastern FC to bring a positive, fun learning environment to the students in the Spring AYSO in house program. The Upperclassman and coaches all received US Soccer Federation Grassroots Coaching Licenses subsidized by STEER and Eastern FC.
