Robert comes from the Port Chester Union Free School District where he has been an elementary school classroom teacher, physical education teacher, athletic coordinator and most recently as the Assistant Principal at Port Chester Middle School. During his twenty year work history he has coached in both intercollegiate athletics and at various levels in the high school ranks. Prior to starting his career as an educator, Robert was the manager of a full service athletic facility where her created and ran all types of student athletic programming.
Robert, son of Robert and Mary Barrett, comes from hard working parents that realized the importance that sports played in their son's life. They nurtured that love for sports and used it to keep him academically focused. Their support along with the support of many others has seen Robert plat at a varsity level in high school where his team shared a New England conference championship. This enabled him to go onto Post University where his teams went to two national tournaments an he was able to make the all tournament and conference teams his junior and senior seasons. During his time at Post, he was able to amass over 1300 points and nearly 900 rebounds. Robert graduated from Post University with a degree in Business Management and a minor in Marketing. He later received his Master's Degree from Manhattanville Colllege in Elementary Education. While teaching, he completed another Master's Degree in School Building Leadership from Mercy College. Most recently he finished up a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Manhattanville College.
During Robert’s ten years of collegiate coaching, he was in charge of recruiting student athletes, academic monitoring, strength and conditioning, fundraising and practice. During that time he continued to see how academics and athletics worked hand in hand to help mold student-athletes into productive working citizens. His players have gone on to work in finance, education, law enforcement, and many other areas. Robert is happy to be a part of STEER for Student Athletes and looks forward to watching the impact this initiative will have on the lives of young people and their future.
