350 by 2030
After successfully achieving our 225 by 2025 goal set in 2020, STEER is looking forward to tomorrow. On August 1st, 2025, STEER launched a capital campaign to support having 350 student athletes successfully impacted by our programs.

With this campaign, our support will not end at high school graduation. STEER will continue to guide and mentor students as they navigate colleges and universities across the country, and their entry into the workforce, ensuring that they are equipped to achieve long-term success in life.

We're supporting 135+ high school students, college students, and young professionals annually from Port Chester, Yonkers, Sleepy Hollow, and New York City.

The Byron Womack Scholarship Fund

Byron Womack, son of Willie and Shirley Womack is the youngest of his three siblings. Raised raised in South Windsor, CT, Byron's family instilled in him the importance of being a good person. On a professional and philanthropic level, Byron devoted his life to helping others. He worked closely with student athletes to help maximize their potential both in the classroom and on the playing field.

In order to honor the legacy and life work of former Executive Director Byron Womack, STEER has established the Byron Womack Scholarship Fund as a perpetual trust to provide revenue to further support STEER student-athletes in their ongoing educational pursuits. Byron’s mission in life was to benefit others, and these endowed scholarships serve to continue that mission. These scholarships are designed to help select STEER student athletes to offset expenses associated with educational pursuits.
The Jane A. Eck Scholarship Fund

The Jane A. Eck Scholarship Award honors the legacy of Jane A. Eck, an esteemed graduate of the University of Rochester with a degree in Psychology and a trailblazing career in journalism while being dedicated to family and her faith.
Established in recognition of her remarkable achievements during an era (1954) when the fields of journalism and psychology were predominantly male-dominated, this scholarship aims to empower and support the next generation of female scholars. It is awarded annually to a deserving female STEER High School graduate who aspires to further her education in journalism, psychology, social work, or a related field, embodying Jane's spirit of determination, excellence, and commitment to breaking barriers.
