Port Chester STEER Student Athlete Laila Builes

After undergoing ACL surgery last spring, Laila worked tirelessly all year to earn medical clearance just in time for the final week of the regular season. She quickly made an impact, winning her second Section Championship and earning the #1 seed at the NYS Championships as she aimed to defend her state title. Despite wrestling more minutes in a single day than she had all season, Laila battled her way back to the state finals for the second consecutive year. Unfortunately, an early injury in the finals prevented her from repeating as champion, but as a sophomore, her future remains incredibly bright.
