- Byron Womack Byron Womack, son of Willie and Shirley Womack is the youngest of his three siblings. Raised raised in South Windsor, CT, Byron's family instilled in him the importance of being a good person. On a professional and philanthropic level, Byron devoted his life to helping others. He worked closely with student athletes to help maximize their potential both in the classroom and on the playing field. Byron was formerly the Assistant Principal at Port Chester Middle School and Executive Director of STEER for Student Athletes.

PURPOSEIn order to honor the legacy and life work of former Executive Director Byron Womack, STEER has established the Byron Womack Scholarship Fund as a perpetual trust to provide revenue to further support STEER student-athletes in their ongoing educational pursuits. Byron’s mission in life was to benefit others, and these endowed scholarships serve to continue that mission. These scholarships are designed to help select STEER student athletes to offset expenses associated with educational pursuits.

AWARDSThe Academic Scholarship is awarded annually in May to a 12th-grade STEER student athlete who has shown proven academic excellence throughout his/her time in the STEER program.
The Leadership Scholarship is awarded annually in May to a 12th-grade STEER student athlete who shows impressive leadership qualities both academically and athletically. The Community Service Scholarship is awarded annually in May to a 12th-grade STEER Student-Athlete(s) who has participated in the majority of STEER community service events, has volunteer experience outside of the STEER organization, and shows a true passion for helping others. The Advocate Award is awarded annually in May to a 12th-grade STEER Student-Athlete(s) who has been nominated by a STEER Advisor or board member within the STEER organization in recognition of their contributions to the program. |
