Rob Rieger is a founding member and principal of PILOT Real Estate Group and has more than 40 years of real estate experience including investing, lending, developing and managing commercial and residential real estate properties and real estate-related operating companies. PILOT invests across the capital stack and focuses on risk-adjusted returns. PILOT has developed an experienced team that takes pride in its ability to be nimble, thoughtful and creative in complex situations that require a capital provider or partner which has the experience, depth and flexibility to take advantage of varying opportunities in the marketplace as it evolves.
PILOT’s mission is to foster strong relationships with borrowers, sponsors, partners, and brokers through these transactions. PILOT's balance sheet, experience, and wide industry network enable it to structure, capitalize, and add value to unique and complicated real estate transactions involving land, multifamily, student housing, hospitality, industrial, office, retail, and structured note purchases while PILOT's use of its own discretionary capital adds dimensions of creativity, speed, and reliability to transactions in which it participates. Through these relationships, PILOT has invested in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Nevada, California, Florida, South Carolina, Illinois, Michigan and North Carolina.
In addition, Mr. Rieger is a Principal in Rieger Homes, Inc. The Company was founded in 1960 by Rob’s father and is one of the largest land developers and home builders in Orange and Dutchess Counties, New York, having built over 5,000 homes in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Mr. Rieger formerly headed the Real Estate Equity Finance Group and was a Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank, was Vice President of Kidder Peabody Realty Corporation and was an Account Manager in Citibank’s Real Estate Industries Division.
In these positions, Mr. Rieger was responsible for providing loans, making acquisitions and joint venture investments and arranging for debt and equity transactions for all types of real estate.
Mr. Rieger has BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He has his MBA from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Rieger was a founder and board member of the Harrison Educational foundation whose mission is to encourage excellence in education by generating and distributing private funds for curriculum enrichment programs to benefit students in the community. Rob is married to Nancy Rieger (a STEER board member), lives in Rye and has three children, a son-in-law and a granddaughter.
